Fynal Wrap

John DalyWe’re takin’ off extra early for the weekend around these parts.

But there’s plenty to watch this weekend lest you get tired of reading ball players’ desperate pleas on Craig’s List.

Among other happenings, John Daly is the early leader at the PGA Championship.

Yes, you read that right.

We don’t think his “physique” will hold up to the 100-degree weather in Tulsa.

In baseball, the Yankees travel to Cleveland to open up a series tomorrow night, while the Cubs and Rockies will also battle it out. The struggling Tigers welcome the Athletics and the just as awful Dodgers will head to St. Louis after just barely avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Reds.

Lastly, in the NFL, our Colts take on the Cowboys tonight. Game starts at 8 Eastern, so if you want to see anyone you recognize, better tune to FOX by 8:03.

Have a good weekend brothers and sisters.

UPDATE: So, we feel completely responsible for this. Don’t let the media bring you down Ayanbadejo!

You’re dead to me Reg

Reggie vs. CelticsWhen I first read the blurb, it didn’t sink in:

Celtics talking to retired Miller”

A Miller considering an NBA comeback?

Blank.

Then I clicked on the story.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

As a Pacers fan, I was almost floored to see that Reggie was the Miller considering lacing up the sneaks again and hitting the hardwood.

I’m not sure it could be called a rivalry (at least a first-round playoff rivalry), but the dislike Pacers’ fans feel toward the Celtics is quite strong. Boston is probably second on the list of “teams Indiana fans hate” behind the Knicks.

But I guess it’s not really that rare anymore to see your favorite player in a different jersey. Karl Malone (if he has any fans) in a Lakers jersey. Shaq in a Lakers jersey, then a Heat jersey. KG in a Celtics jersey. It just looks so desperate.

Honestly, the Celtics aren’t going to win the NBA Finals this year. They probably won’t even get there. And now, I hope they miss the playoffs.

The Fynal Out: Goodbye playoffs

Reds win! Reds win!Since you most likely have an East-Coast bias, you probably haven’t been watching the Dodgers recently.

So, we’ll sum up the team’s recent play:

Awful.

In addition to losing 6 in a row and having only 1 win in their last 9 games, the Dodgers have also been shut out in 4 of their last 5 games.

This is a team that was in first Jul. 30. And now they trail the Rockies — the Rockies! — in the N.L. West. Unlike most people, we think the Diamondbacks will hold off L.A. and win the division.

But, cheer up L.A. fans (hello? L.A. fans, you there?), you’ve always got the Galaxy.

Dodgers 0, Reds 1: The return of Aaron Harang was all Cincinnati could have asked for, as the pitcher went 8 innings and gave up only 4 hits. Ken Griffey Jr. drove in the only run with an RBI single in the third.

Brewers 4, Rockies 19: Speaking of Colorado, the Rockies swept the Brewers in style, pounding out 11 runs on 12 hits against Milwaukee’s Yovani Gallardo. When it was all said and done, the Rocks had 23 hits, 4 by Garrett Atkins (4-for-4), who had 6 RBI.

Indians 4, White Sox 6 (F/13): With the Tigers dropping another game (this one to Tampa Bay), Cleveland looked to stretch its lead in the A.L. Central. Unfortunately, Juan Uribe had other plans and after A.J. Pierzynski tied the game with a solo shot in the 12th, Uribe’s 2-run shot in the 13th made up for his earlier fielding error.

More scores…
