Rick Ankiel…not so clean

Rick cheatsThis was bound to happen.

Surely, you are familiar with Rick Ankiel.

Former pitcher for the Cardinals with control problems went back to the minors to re-make it to the Show as an outfielder.

And since being called back up, Ankiel’s been tearing it up (9 home runs in 81 at-bats, .338 BA).

But now, the truth comes out, and the everyone’s favorite David had some help overcoming Goliath.

Yep, Ankiel was on the HGH. He had to be, anytime we’re given a feel good story that actually works out in the end, it has to be tainted.

And Ankiel is no different.

It doesn’t matter that HGH wasn’t covered under MLB’s drug policy when Ankiel obtained it in 2004 (as the commish turned a blind eye to ‘roids).

It doesn’t matter that Ankiel had a “doctor’s” prescription.

This was the one story that all baseball fans — hell, all fans — needed to be perfectly clean. It was the one story clear of any cream talk.

But now, we’re right back where we started. We live in the ‘Roid Age, where we wouldn’t be surprised to see any player test positive — even David Eckstein.

So, thanks Rick. You’ve had a great comeback, but you’ve helped ruin baseball’s.

i dont think he ruined anything for baseball and it’s ‘comeback’ – what comeback? fans have been going to games in record numbers for several years now. it seems that fans are paying more per ticket and coming to more games and in the big picture dont really mind chemicals being involved. its more of a story to the media than to the fans. imho

Cmon…I’m an Angels fan and you can bet your house on the fact that David Eckstein is NOT doing steroids! That’s like saying Rod Carew lifted weights!

Did you see how horrible Ankiel was tonight. Two missed fly balls. Fly balls for goodness sakes.

    And O-fer at the plate.

Can he still throw a curve?
