Baseball wraps are going to start becoming the norm around here. Unfortunately, the first one has to lead off with the Cubs.
Cubs 7, Astros 6: Down 5-0 in the top of the second, what else would the Cubs do but score 6 in the bottom half of the inning? Derrek Lee hit a three-run shot and Mike Lamb was 3-5 with a homer for the Cubbies – now 3.5 back of the Brew Crew.
Dodgers 5, Giants 3: The Dodgers pulled off their third-straight sweep in San Fran. The game ended with Takashi Saito retiring someone called Bonds. Barry was 0-3 in the game and an impressive 0-12 in the series, hitting into three double plays and striking out thrice. We Chicagoans get to deal with the freakshow starting tonight.
Twins 4, Athletics 3: It’s about time to stick a fork in Oakland, no? A game-winning Joe Mauer single in the ninth spelled the A’s seventh-straight loss. The Twinkies are currently 6.5 back in the Central.
Tigers 11, Mariners 7: Justin Verlander continues to be ridiculously good. Verlander gave up 4 earned in 7 IP, and picked up his 11th win of the season. The Tigers win kept their slim lead over the Tribe in the Central standings. Since the M’s lost, we’ll just assume a Weaver pitched.
Cardinals 10, Phillies 2: The Phils racked up their sports-worst 10,000th loss. Not really sure this is such a big deal, it really only means they have been around forever. Anyways, here some more worthwhile commentary. Maybe if it was 10,000 consecutive losses, the Phillies would get their own post.
