The Fynal Out: Glavine gets 300th

Tom GlavineWhat a weekend can do.

Bonds got 755, A-Rod got 500 and Tommy G got No. 300.

Despite the glory that is the long ball (chicks dig it, ya know), I’d make the argument that Glavine’s mark is more impressive.

I’m pretty sure no one would accuse Glavine of juicing. He only plays every five days. And, he’s 41.

Glavine’s the fifth left-hander to accomplish the feat and he’s  third in wins by an active pitcher behind cocky, overpaid Roger Clemens and Greg Maddux.

And on top of all that history, Glavine knocked the Cubs down a peg or two, as Chicago dropped 2 of 3 to N.Y.

Mets 8, Cubs 3: Glavine pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned in the win. There were both sunshine and clouds for the Cubs, who saw Kerry Wood return to the lineup with an inning of scoreless relief, but also saw The Fons go down with a strained quad. And they dropped a game out of first.

White Sox 3, Tigers 1: In a flashback to last year, Detroit is faltering when it counts most — the team has now dropped 11 of 13. Magglio Ordonez had the only score with a solo home run. Gavin Floyd lowered his ERA by almost 3 points by going 6 innings without giving up a run.

Diamondbacks 3, Dodgers 0: Behind the Tigers, the Dodgers are struggling like no one else. They’ve won just 2 of their last 8 games, and are now 4 games out of first in a division they led most of the season. The D-Backs continued to roll, thanks in large part to Brandon Webb’s shutout which pushed his scoreless innings streak to 24.

More scores…

Obafemi Ayanbadejo, you got clowned

UPDATE: This was all in jest, I thought it was pretty obvious that isn’t Ayanbadejo in the video. Hopefully he’s been on the phone with Nike customer service all day.

Fantasy football drafts got me all high on football this weekend.

Despite my first-round pick of Willie Parker, the above Nike commercial has me ready for trash talk and Sundays. God, I can’t wait.

Anyway, the Swoosh is taking some shots at the Bears defense here. Usually, LT’s commercial footwork leaves generic, lightning-bolt decaled red helmets in the dust.

In this ad, LT throws Bears FB Obafemi Ayanbadejo to the ground with a stiff arm. (Ayanbadejo is so popular, he’s a 9-year vet whose bio is “coming soon” on the Bears Web site)

Two of the other Chicago jerseys who are embarrassed in the spot are rookie safety Jay Staggs and DE Bryan Copeland. However, Staggs and Copeland were lucky enough to have alternate names on their jerseys in the commercial. O.A., not so much. UPDATE: If you slow it down/pause the video, Ayanbadejo’s name is changed to protect his identity. Too bad we figured it out anyway.

Shouldn’t there be some kind of law where the player whose likeness is featured in the commercial, getting juked out of his shoes, has to consent?

How would you like lining up opposite the Charger defense if you’re Ayanbadejo during the season. They’ve already got a season’s worth of trash talk.

Personally, I would have gone with No. 8.
