Vegas goes bust

Vegas, babyIn this Tim Donaghy controversy, we all know the real loser.

Not the NBA. The fans are going to keep watching. The people who hate the league probably aren’t going to start following now.

Most likely not David Stern. Firing him could be the final blow to the league. He’s really the face of any stability right now.

Not the players. If anything, they might get to whine about calls more.

It’s Vegas, baby.

Vegas is done. Toast. “Cleaned out” as they say on the strip.

The New York Daily News has a source who says this whole gambling controversy will have “probably have no impact, whatsoever.” I think David Stern would disagree.

Stern has been looking for a reason to keep his boycott of Sin City alive.

Although I’m sure this isn’t what he had in mind, he’s going to appear to have a much stronger argument now. “See, I told you gambling would infect our game. Just imagine if we had a team in Vegas.”

Grand exit

CraiggersLike the saying goes, Craig Biggio knows how to party.

Or something like that.

On the same day he announced he was going to hang up the cleats at season’s end, Craiggers hit a two-out grand slam to secure a come-from-behind win over the Dodgers.

Although not many people would consider leaving Biggio off their Hall of Fame ballots, he’s kinda flown under the radar during his career, no?

I mean, he doesn’t do any Vitamin Water ads, so how awesome can he really be?

Dodgers 4, Astros 7: Jeff Kent’s homer was the highlight for L.A., one of four teams in the N.L. West that is 5-5 in its last 10. Dodgers starter Mark Hendrickson gave up 3 earned in 5 innings pitched, but then Rudy Seanez (not to be confused with Olmedo Saenz) gave up the granny.

Braves 7, Giants 5: Tim Hudson was cruising into the 9th, looking for his 10th career shutout, when Bob Wickman entered the game. Wickman has blown five saves this year, three in games that Hudson started. He didn’t disappoint last night, tossing away the save and helping four additional Braves pitchers get playing time. Edgar Renteria ruined all the fun with a two-run double in the 13th. Boo. UPDATE: Bonds didn’t do anything. Again.

Mariners 3, Rangers 4: Seattle continues to suck, and has now lost 5 in a row. The M’s are also 3-7 in their last 10. Jarrod Washburn did about as well as you could ask Jarrod Washburn to do, giving up 3 earned in 5.2 IP.

“We’re not playing well right now and we know it,” Washburn said.

Good, so does everyone else.

More scores…
